We are hiring:  NECT Data Analyst Researcher

The National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) is an organisation dedicated to strengthening social partnerships in order to achieve the educational goals of the National Development Plan. The NECT operates education programmes to improve schooling in South Africa involving thousands of schools. The NECT uses data for management and strategic decision making as well for programme-related monitoring and evaluation of the NECT District Improvement Programme (DIP).

A data analyst researcher undertakes data-related functions as well as analyses data that supports reporting and monitoring the progress of the NECT from the school, classroom and teacher level upwards. The incumbent of this post will work in the data unit.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Data Analyst-Researcher is required to undertake the following functions in the data unit: data processing and management (e.g. collation, cleaning, data quality assurance and verification using correct protocols); and data analysis using relevant software; and assist in generating data reports (including tables and graphs) based on queries.

REQUIREMENTS
• Honours in statistics, econometrics, mathematics (with a strong statistical component)
• At least two years of experience in the relevant field
• Computer skills including competence in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), use of the internet and email
• Must have extensive knowledge of Stata (2 years minimum experience)
• Conduct and manage processes such as data capture, cleaning, quality assurance, verification and analysis.
• Clean data and analyse data (minimum 2 years’ experience)
• Understanding and knowledge to operate database systems
• Use data to write standard or customised reports from findings
• Must have a valid driver’s licence
• Must have a South African ID or a valid work permit

COMPETENCIES
• Commitment to ethical standards in managing public, personal and confidential data
• Good command of oral and written English
• Sound quantitative data analysis skills
• Ability to communicate well with clients/users
• Ability to work in a demanding environment

PREFERRED
• A masters-level qualification would be an advantage
• Experience in sampling and weighting will be an added advantage
• Knowledge of other statistical packages will be an added advantage (R-Programming)
