JET Education Services seeks to appoint a Statistician in its Data and Statistics unit. The Statistician will provide support for statistical analysis of quantitative data from various projects which support an evidence-based approach to education policy and planning.
Specific tasks will include:
Survey design and management
• Design experiments and surveys that provide an environment in which to collect data
• Perform sample size calculations
• Perform survey sampling
• Develop electronic question forms to collect data
• Quality control of data during collection to ensure correct collection
Data management and reporting
• Clean and analyse data using Stata and R
• Interpret data and develop recommendations based on findings
• Develop graphs, reports, and presentations of project results
• Perform basic and advanced statistical analyses for projects and reports
• Generate routine and ad hoc reports
• Communicate results to the client
• Ensure that complex statistical concepts are explained in a way the client can understand
The knowledge and skills required are as follows:
• Minimum Honours degree in statistics. A Masters-level qualification would be an advantage.
• At least two years of experience as a statistician
• Conduct and manage processes such as data capture, cleaning, quality assurance, verification and analysis
• Minimum two years of experience using Stata statistical package. Experience in R will also be an advantage.
• Understanding and knowledge to operate database systems
• Familiarity with database programmes such as Microsoft Access, MySQL and/or others
• Minimum three years’ experience cleaning and analyzing data
• Experience with sampling. Experience with weighting will be an added advantage.
• Use data to write standard or customized reports from findings
• Good report writing skills
• Commitment to ethical standards in managing public, personal and confidential data
• Sound quantitative data analysis skills
• Ability to communicate well with clients/users
• Must have a South African ID or a valid work permit
