JET Education Services seeks to appoint a Researcher in their Implementation and Innovation Division.

Location: Johannesburg

The role of the incumbent will be to undertake activities that involve mainly research, implementation of education development and project management activities. This will involve projects that contribute to preparing youth for the world of work, mainly in support of their desired entry into sustainable employment, or successful re-employment if unemployed. The focus is especially on finding ways to support marginalised youth through this transition with exposure to improved access to work experience and non-cognitive or ‘soft-skills’ (e.g. such as through values clarification and strengthened self-efficacy). This job is intended to add strength and depth to JET’s commitment to improving post-school institutional quality and capabilities of youth through collaboration with the TVET Colleges, SETAs, DHET and private enterprises.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
• A post-graduate qualification in a relevant field.
• A masters-level qualification would be an advantage.
• Minimum 4 years of research experience
• Minimum 4 years of research experience in education sector
• Computer skills including familiarity with Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and use of the internet and email.
• Knowledge of statistical packages would be an advantage.
• Ability to communicate in English clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Excellent understanding of challenges in the education sector.
• Able to work on own initiative.
• Leadership skills

• Time management skills.
• Willingness to work overtime as and when project demands require it, within reason.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

RESEARCH AND WRITING
The research and writing activities are to:
• Collaborate on designing research projects.
• Conduct literature reviews.
• Undertake research project activities:
• Write quality reports on each research or implementation project as specified by contract.
• Present completed project work at seminars, conferences and workshops.
• Disseminate research in journals, accessible media and other channels

PROJECT WORK
The project work will be to:
• Participate in research and education development projects.
• Work on projects in the TVET thematic area
• Work on projects related to the themes of accountability and values in the schooling or the TVET sector.
• Collaborate on work teams across units and divisions in JET.
• Participate in business development writing for: expressions of interest, tenders, proposals etc.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Project management will involve:
• Determine and define project scope and objectives
• Predict resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner
• Prepare budget based on scope of work and resource requirements
• Track project costs in order to meet budget
• Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan
• Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
• Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
• Monitor progress and make adjustments as needed
• Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement
• Managing relationships with clients and stakeholders
• Overseeing all incoming and outgoing project documentation
• Conducting project review and creating detailed reports
• Securing growth opportunities and initiating new projects
• Managing diverse teams
• Plan and designate project resources
• Prepare and manage project budgets

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Communications with relevant stakeholders will require the Research Officer to:
• Develop relationships with stakeholder organisations including education institutions such as TVET colleges, NPOs training youth, unemployed youth, and relevant government and private sector clients.
• Support effective working relationships with local and international partner organisations.
• Network with appropriate organisations through attendance and networking at relevant events.
• Proactively interact with possible funders, clients and partners with the aim of building relationships that strengthen and sustain JET’s strategic vision and business model.

Salary range: R350187 - R409464 Per annum
