WE ARE HIRING: JET Data and Research Interns (Readvert)

Location: Johannesburg

The intern will provide support with cleaning and analysing quantitative data from various projects using Stata and other software to generate data reports (including tables and graphs) based on queries.

Specific tasks will include the following:

• Becoming familiar with the questionnaire or instrument and how the data was collected.
• Ensuring that variable names are meaningful.
• Import the data into statistical packages such as Stata and ensuring this has been done correctly.
• Check the structure of the variables in the data sets.
• Check for duplicate records in the data set.
• Check for skip-logic or skip pattern or routing errors.
• Run frequencies or summaries for each of the variables.
• Check for implausible data.
• Analysing the clean data using an analysis or query matrix.
• Develop tables and graphs.
• Develop recommendations based on findings.
• Contribute to proposal writing.
• Quantitative Research activities e.g. evaluation projects, and background information for instrument development.
• Developing appropriate survey instruments.


Requirements:

• An Honours degree in statistics, economics, econometrics, mathematics or social sciences (with a strong statistical component).
• Must have knowledge of Stata (at least 1 year minimum experience).
• Excellent knowledge of Excel and/or Google sheets.
• Must be extremely diligent and pay attention to detail.
• Must enjoy working with data and numbers.
• Commitment to ethical standards in managing public, personal and confidential data.
• Ability to communicate in English clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• A demonstrated interest in developing skills in education sector analysis.
• Time management skills.
• Willingness to work overtime as and when project demands require it, within reason.
• Must have a South African ID or a valid work permit.
