Data Monitor: Limpopo Platinum (Mogalakwena)

Anglo American South Africa (AASA) and Platinum in partnership with the Department of Basic Education are implementing the AASA Education Programme, an initiative of Anglo American’s sustainability strategy. This is a holistic approach to education from early childhood learning through to matric, the goal being to improve the educational outcomes of learners in communities local to the Platinum Operations around Mogalakwena in Limpopo. Through a number of service providers, the programme works in primary and secondary schools as well as Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres.

As part of this programme, JET Education Services (JET), appointed by AASA, seeks to appoint a DATA MONITOR to join its provincial project team working in the Mogalakwena area. Under the direct supervision of the JET AASA Platinum Programme Coordinator, the Data Monitor will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the intervention programmes in schools and ECD sites by capturing data on a range of key indicators.

This data collection feeds into the overall monitoring and evaluation programme which aims to ensure that the project maintains its strategic goal and that its activities result in the achievement of its intended outputs in a cost effective and timely manner.

Job specifications
The Data Monitor will be responsible for:
• planning and managing all required visits to project sites;
• the collection of data against set indicators in relation to the project activities, including for scheduled assessments, updating of primary school level data, and all data needs stipulated by the JET management team;
• ensuring routine procedures are followed and data quality standards maintained;
• assisting the Programme Coordinator in preparing monthly / quarterly / annual reports on project progress;
• managing own time, travel and site visit arrangements;
• preparing meeting documents timeously as necessary.

The appointed Data Monitor must be based close to the areas of operation in Mogalakwena in Limpopo and will be offered a 24 month fixed term contract. The appointee will be required to have the following attributes:

• A valid Grade 12 certificate;
• Any tertiary qualification or technical diploma at NQF level 6. A degree in Social Science or Education will be an advantage;
• Prior work experience in basic research skills, data collection and reporting (1 - 3 years preferred);
• Understanding of basic monitoring and evaluation concepts and methods;
• Ability to maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders;
• Good computer skills (especially Microsoft Excel);
• Good presentation and report writing skills;
A good understanding of developmental issues and challenges in the context of government policies, specifically education, is an advantage.

• Good written and spoken communication skills;
• Ability and willingness to travel to remote rural areas;
• Integrity and commitments to the highest ethical standards.

Essential requirements:
• Resident in the Mogalakwena area - an account or affidavit confirming proof of residence is required
• Fluency in English, with Afrikaans, Setswana and Sotho advantageous;
• A valid and unendorsed Code 8 driving licence (own vehicle preferred).

This position will require the incumbent to work physically onsite and working from home will be limited.
