The Senior Statistician will provide support for statistical analysis of quantitative data from various projects which support an evidence-based approach to education policy and planning.
Knowledge and Skills
• Minimum Masters degree in Statistics or equivalent skill.
• Minimum 8 years experience as a statistician
• Minimum 5 years experience using Stata statistical package and R.
• Analytical skills
• Report writing skills
• Communication skills
• Must have a South African ID or a valid work permit
Specific tasks will include:
Experimentation and Survey Design
• Design experiments and surveys that provide an environment in which to collect data
• Perform sample size calculations
• Perform survey sampling
• Decide on the methods to be used to collect data
• Develop the information on collection forms
• Instruct statistical assistants on exactly how to go about the process of data collection
• Once the survey or experiment is completed collect, interpret and summarise the data
• Quality Control to ensure correct data
• Advise on risks
Data Collection
• Identify problematic areas and conduct research to determine the best course of action to correct the data
• Analyse and problem solve issues with current and planned systems as they relate to the integration and management of education data
• Analyse reports of data duplicates or other errors to provide ongoing appropriate communication and reporting
• Monitor for timely and accurate completion of select data elements
• Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
Data Reporting
• Clean and analyse data using Stata and R
• Interpret data and develop recommendations based on findings
• Develop graphs, reports, and presentations of project results
• Perform basic statistical analyses for projects and reports
• Create and present quality dashboards
• Generate routine and ad hoc reports
Presentation of quantitative information
• With the aid of mathematical techniques and software (Stata/R), interpret data and communicate results to the client
• Ensure that complex statistical concepts are explained in a way the client can understand
