JET Knowledge Manager

 The KM will be responsible for driving and overseeing the implementation and further development of the organisation’s Knowledge Management Strategy and embedding a knowledge management culture in the organisation. 

Scope of work

The Knowledge Management Unit comprises a Knowledge Manager (KM), an Associate (part-time) and Communications Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing this staff complement.  The KM will be responsible for implementing JET’s knowledge management strategy and driving the updating and continuing relevance of the strategy for the organisation. To develop the systems in place, develop new systems as required and be responsible for the primary advocacy work for, and of JET and its clients. The incumbent will be required to have oversight of all knowledge-related strategies and activities carried out by the Unit, including, inter alia: 

Monitoring and reporting on implementation and effectiveness of the KM framework; maintaining and updating the Resource Center and its database, capturing and archiving of knowledge assets in a knowledge base; internal and external communication; promoting collaboration, knowledge sharing and the use of knowledge throughout the organisation; communicating JET research internally and externally; managing staff usage of various electronic knowledge tools; coordination of the production of JET publications; conducting training for staff on knowledge production and the use of knowledge tools as needed; marketing the work of JET and participating in events that promote the JET brand. The KM manager will be responsible for the production of the Annual Report, arrangements for the JET Annual Meeting event, and report to the JET Board as required. Another area of responsibility is JET’s POPIA and PAIA compliance across the work that JET is responsible for.

Requirements: Non-negotiable:   

At least an honours Degree or equivalent in information management, librarianship, information technology, or communications. 

  • 5+ years of experience working with knowledge management systems/tools and databases, or working in a research environment.
  • Must have at least 2years experience in a management position
  • Must have strong English writing and editing skills. 
  • Must have experience of at least 2 years years of social media writing, advocacy approaches and legal parameters.
  • Must have done capacity development with regards to technical writing, conducting online and other searches, and other training for young and upcoming, mid-level researchers within JET.
  • Must develop and implement advocacy strategies and campaigns for research outputs, project work, etc., and must be skilled with virtual tools and apps to constantly update and modernise the unit and organisation.

An added advantage:

  • Experience in library management including cataloguing.  
  • Project management skills.
  •  Familiarity with Google and Google Workspace.
  • IT skills and an aptitude for understanding and working with technology systems.
  • Good people skills and a service ethic.
  • A commitment to working towards social justice.

 

This will be a permanent position, starting from 1 July 2023. The package is between R520 000-R600 000 (TCC) - negotiable.    

Must have a South African ID or a valid work permit. Will be required to work from The Education Hub, Johannesburg.
