The M&E Officer will be required to support the division in delivering high quality M&E work which supports an evidence-based approached to education policy and planning and which sets high quality standards for the education sector.

The contract offered is a fixed term contract that runs for one year and is subject to renewal.

Applicants should have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • An Honour's Degree in Monitoring & Evaluation and/or an equivalent degree with 3 years of experience
  • An understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Microsoft Office, Internet and email computer skills - SPSS, R and ATLAS.ti skills would be an advantage
  • Extensive knowledge of monitoring and evaluation principles and methods and how they relate to education practices
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop logic models and indicators
  • Knowledge of and ability to design monitoring and evaluation instruments (interview schedules, questionnaires etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge of the use of graphic representation including computerised graphics
  • Ability to communicate in English clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing - an additional South African language would be an advantage
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Proven organisational skills, including time-management

Responsibilities of the position: The  incumbent will be expected to:

  • Provide support to the M&E Executive and Specialist Managers on specific projects
  • Contribute towards project design
  • Prepare for project inception – attend inception meetings and develop work plans
  • Assist with project planning and preparation to facilitate a smooth implementation of project activities
  • Assist with materials development in the form of programme theory and logic models, monitoring and evaluation data collection instruments, training manuals and presentations
  • Coordinate project roll-out
  • Understand and manage project budgets and plan appropriately for project expenditure, in line with budgets
  • Keep M&E senior staff responsible for projects updated on a regular basis and liaise with them regarding any need to make changes to projects work plans and/or activities 
  • Manage primary data collection for specific M&E projects as required
  • Play a lead role in projects involving other contracted evaluators and researchers
  • Prepares progress reports as per project requirements
  • Attend business development meetings, develop concept notes and contribute to the development of proposals for possible new projects
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation  and be familiar with organisational and divisional objectives and strategies
  • Work in a flexible manner in line with the organisation’s corporate objectives and be willing to undertake other duties as reasonably requested, while adhering o the organisation’s policies and procedures 
  • Provide excellent customer care in dealings with the clients
  • Understand the sensitivities of our funders and partners and respect confidentiality 
  • Work confidently and productively on own initiative and manage a diverse and demanding workload to set timescales and deadlines
