Task Team 5: Planning support for colleges for 2011 with regard to staffing and learner recruitment

Team-specific tasks are itemised below:

  • Study all relevant documentation as provided to Task Teams 1-4.
  • Remain at all times fully acquainted with the work in progress and outputs of Task Teams 1-4.
  • Fully understand the FET Summit outcomes.
  • From May to August (FET Summit), take responsibility for communicating effectively with all colleges (managers and governors) using email and the Summit website to establish a supportive relationship and keep them updated on the work in progress of Task Teams 1-4, the Summit Working Committee and the Summit Steering Committee.
  • From May to August, take responsibility for communicating effectively with all colleges (managers and governors) using email and the Summit website.
  • After the August Summit, work intensively with prioritised colleges to provide support for their operational planning for 2011.
  • Assist college councils to develop budgets (from the budget determination) that guide management actions in relation to enrolment planning, enrolment activities, selection and planning for appropriate staff to deliver the courses offered on the basis of unit costs. This must be completed by the end of October.
  • Identify areas of staff shortage across all colleges.
  • Engage Provincial Departments of Education to assess whether suitably qualified staff who left colleges as a consequence of the change in employer can be seconded back to the colleges.
  • Contemplate other innovative ways to fill vacancies.
  • Manage the convergence of staff provisioning and programme funding.
  • Investigate innovative and effective models for recruitment and guidance of learners.
