JET Education Services participated in the Book Launch on Parental and Caregiver Involvement in Education

JET Education Services was proud to participate in the launch of Parental and Caregiver Involvement in South African Education, published by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) Press. The event took place at Exclusive Books, Rosebank Mall, Johannesburg and brought together education stakeholders, researchers, and practitioners to celebrate this important contribution to South African education.

The book represents a significant addition to the body of knowledge on education in South Africa. It offers a compelling collection of research examining the structural, affective, and practical factors that shape parent and caregiver involvement in education policy and practice. As highlighted during the event, parental involvement in children’s learning and development plays a critical role in improving educational outcomes.

The evening commenced with an introduction by Zahraa McDonald, one of the contributing authors, who shared the rationale behind the publication, outlined how the volume was conceptualised and developed, and reflected on its relevance to the South African education landscape.

This was followed by a panel discussion centred on the theme: “What does meaningful parental and caregiver involvement in education look like in South Africa?” The panel featured contributing authors and sector leaders, including James Keevy (JET Education Services), Zahraa McDonald (UJ), Bongani Mkhize (UJ), Colleen Magner (Reos Partners), Juanita Pardesi (Seriti), and Marc Aguirre (HOPE worldwide SA). The discussion provided valuable insights into the aims and objectives of the book, while exploring practical approaches to strengthening collaboration between families, schools, and communities.

The event concluded on a high note, reflecting the collective commitment of researchers and practitioners to advancing inclusive and effective education systems. JET Education Services extends its sincere gratitude to the editors, contributors, and partner organisations for their dedication in bringing this important publication to fruition, as well as to all attendees who participated in the launch.
