"Apprenticeship is a centuries-old system which enables people to acquire skills for an occupation, however, questions are increasingly being raised about its relevance in the context of the future of work and lifelong learning. For example, can it be used for reskilling and upskilling of adults and older workers? To address such issues, the ILO implemented a research project – Apprenticeship Development for Universal Lifelong Learning and Training (ADULT)– which aimed to generate new ideas and policy options to modernise apprenticeship systems in the context of lifelong learning."
