We are hiring: WCED Systemic Testing Grade 9 Markers
JET Education Services is seeking to appoint markers on a short-term contract basis to mark scripts for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) Grades 3, 6, and 9 Systemic Testing.
Recruitment will begin with Grade 9, for which the following number of markers will be appointed
- English Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) - up to 40 positions
- Afrikaans Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) - up to 70 positions
- Mathematics - up to 60 positions
Minimum Requirements for appointment as a Marker
- Have a tertiary qualification and experience in the subject. Grade 9 markers must have a minimum pass in the subject at second-year university level or equivalent.
- Previous experience as a marker on the WCED Systemic Testing project, or any other equivalent marking experience, will be an advantage.
- Not currently employed by the WCED.
- Be fully available for the duration of the marking period, including over weekends when necessary.
- Be in possession of a valid SARS tax number and a South African identity document.
- Be a person of integrity who will maintain the confidentiality and security of testing.
A Marker will be assigned to a subject commensurate with their qualifications and experience. Marking will commence on Monday, 12 October 2026 and is to be concluded no later than Friday, 20 November 2026. This period may be extended or shortened at the sole discretion of JET Education Services.
Duties
- Prior to the commencement of marking, Markers must attend a compulsory Training Session.
- The time and date of this session will be communicated to the Marker well in advance of the start date of marking.
- The Marker is expected to become fully conversant with all aspects of the Marking Instruction Manual issued during the Marker Training Session.
- All Markers are required to be present at the Marking Centre from 07h00 to 17h00 every day of the week upon which marking is to take place for the duration of the marking process. If deemed necessary, the Marker may be required to work on one or more Saturdays during the marking process. The Marker will be assigned to a Senior Marker for the duration of the marking.
- Each Marker will be assigned to a Senior Marker and is expected to follow all reasonable instructions given by the Senior Marker, the Chief Marker and Marking Centre management.
- The Marker will be expected to take due care to ensure that the test scripts are marked thoroughly and accurately as per the marking memorandum and the guidance provided by the Senior and Chief Marker.
