Rachel Neville (ECD Specialist Manager) and Daniel Mashilo (Senior Statistician) are part of the session on Improving the measurement and evaluation of playful learning interventions, presenting on the role of play in the development of cognitive and executive functions in children aged 3-5 years old in South Africa.’
Their paper describes how executive functions develop in the contexts of playful pedagogies in South Africa. This study involves analysis of the “Thrive by Five” national survey of 3-5 year-olds in South Africa, using the Early Learning Outcome Measure (ELOM), which includes measures of executive function.
