Join the Researchers Bootcamp #OpenupYourThinking
JET Education Services invites you to apply for the #OpenupYourThinking bootcamp that will take place from 30 March to 17 April 2020.
The bootcamp research project will look at macro, middle and micro level implications of COVID-19 on South African education. We are looking for young (and not-so-young researchers) that want to do something about the threat of COVID-19 to education.
We need 10 researchers, mostly under the age of 35 for each of the 9 research thematic areas.

NB: Please note that we are currently oversubscribed. You can still choose a theme below and apply, however please note that your application will only be considered if someone that applied before you declines to continue. Of course a strong application will count in your favour.

These are the 9 thematic areas:
Theme 1: A qualitative piece on the different experiences of individuals during this lockdown, particularly with regards to education

Lead Researcher: Dr Nick Taylor

Theme 2: To conduct a comparative study on the response of NPOs in education to the COVID-19 pandemic, the concomitant uncertainty globally and the announced lockdown of 21 days in South Africa

Lead Researcher: Dr Rooksana Rajab

Theme 3:  The role of culture in alleviating the spread of COVID-19

Lead Researcher: Zaahedah Vally

Theme 4: Looking for ways to effectively govern the pandemic: How governments are positioning and activating public institutions such as school systems in multi-pronged efforts to contain COVID-19
Lead Researcher: Dr Andrew Paterson
Theme 5: Unlocking the Lockdown mindset and its untapped possibilities
Lead Researcher: Milisa Janda
Theme 6: Fake news impacting school age children (or targeting school age children): Impacts on behaviour, risk, anxiety, and how to ameliorate
Lead Researcher: Tshepo Motsepe

Theme 7: Putting the individual at the centre: the role of a digital identity ecosystem that is open, standards-based, and decentralised during the time of COVID-19

Lead Researcher: Barbara Dale-Jones

Lead Researcher: Naziema Jappie

Theme 9: Education innovation in times of necessity – reimagining education service provision in response to COVID-19 and identifying sustainable interventions to address inequality
