JET remembers Professor Peliwe Lolwana

She will be remembered for her contributions and commitment to the education sector, her wisdom and her endeavours in building a more informed society. We extend our condolences to her family, relatives and colleagues.

Prof Lolwana was associated with JET and recently facilitated our CEOs’ conversation: Sharing Stories on the Transformation of Education in South Africa and JET’s Contribution to the Education Sector. JET will always remember her fondly. James Keevy JET CEO said: ‘So sad, a mentor to me personally, fiercely independent, always available for a word of advice.’ 

Prof. Lolwana was the Chairperson of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) board and an Associate Professor at the Centre for Researching Education and Labour (REAL), University of Witwatersrand; Johannesburg. She also held the position of Director of the Centre for Researching Education and Labour at the University of Witwatersrand. She served on a number of associations, boards, foundations and councils in education and training in South Africa, on the continent and in the Commonwealth. Prof. Lolwana held a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, U.S.A.
