Advancing STEM Education Through Digital Learning with Admire Maketero

Admire Maketero is a JET consultant on the Mr Price Foundation Project, serving as a Teacher Development Mentor in Mathematics and Science. He supports educators in using Eduten digital tools and teaching strategies to improve learning outcomes. His role includes data analysis, applying pedagogical methods, and promoting the use of technology in education.

He analyses baseline and endline data to assess student progress and guide evidence-based teaching improvements. He leads the implementation of the Eduten e-learning programme, supporting teachers in integrating digital tools and monitoring learner progress.

Recently, Admire and his team achieved a significant milestone by successfully piloting the innovative Eduten programme in three treatment schools and three control schools located in the Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal area. The outcome of the pilot has encouraged Eduten to broaden its outreach to even more schools. The effective integration of Eduten's resources into the curriculum and a seamless transition to digital teaching and learning are achieved through collaborating closely with teachers. Admire firmly believes that the findings from the pilot study highlight Eduten’s potential to positively impact student learning and engagement. This compelling evidence provided a solid foundation for the decision to scale up the programme, paving the way for a brighter educational future for learners in the community.

He expressed pride in JET’s recognition by Investors In People with the 2024 "Employer of the Year" Silver award. He also values the impact of digital learning and suggests expanding these initiatives and strengthening teacher mentorship to improve STEM education.

Admire is focused on helping teachers and students use digital tools effectively, ensuring that technology in education is purposeful and evidence-based.
