Meet Our International Intern: Melissa Rogers
JET Education Services annually facilitates an internship programme with the University of Pennsylvania, United States of America (USA).
This year, we welcomed Melissa Rogers as part of the programme.
Melissa is from the US. “I’ve moved a lot, but I call Colorado home,” says Melissa.
Melissa studied elementary education at the University of Northern Colorado and is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Education (MSEd) in International Educational Development at the University of Pennsylvania. She plans to graduate in December.
Her passion lies in education. “I’m passionate about education, especially reading and kids having opportunities to learn,” she says.
Melissa joined JET after hearing positive things from faculty and former interns in her programme. “I’ve worked in education both as a teacher and on education projects with nonprofits. I really wanted a place where I would learn new skills, and I knew I could learn a lot from working at JET,” she explains. “I knew South Africa was a great place to be, but I didn't yet know how incredible the people of JET are. I'm glad I came!”
Her time at JET has been a valuable experience. “I have enjoyed working with some great people and have learned a lot from them and the work.”
Melissa is currently contributing to a research project for VVOB’s Early Grade Reading Instruction Programme. “There is a lot of data!” she notes, as she supports the team in developing a quasi-experimental research report.
We’re excited to have Melissa contribute her skills and passion to JET. With her commitment to education, learning, and making a difference, we’re confident she will leave a lasting impact as a JETsetter. In her spare time, you might find her taking in the views from the top of Table Mountain. Welcome, Melissa!
