The incumbent will be responsible for the management of a large scale education development project and will oversee programme implementation in three provinces across South Africa in collaboration with the senior programme manager and programme director. 

Required qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Development or related field (a postgraduate qualification is an added advantage) 

Knowledge, experience and skills required 
  • Knowledge and experience in the education and/or development sectors
  • Extensive experience in and proven track record of managing and supporting large- scale, complex interventions and extensive
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in high-level project management, including managing high-level budgets and the performance of project staff 
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, planning and organisational skills
  • High-level communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Fluency in isiZulu, siSwati, Setswana and Afrikaans will be an added advantage 
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with project partners, clients and stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to problem-solve and multi-task
  • Computer literacy (MS Office package)
  • A valid and unendorsed code 08 driver’s license

The individual should be highly motivated to make a difference in the education sector through the work JET does.

Key Performance Areas

The project manager is expected to ensure effective project implementation by:

  • Ensuring targets are met
  • Managing and monitoring the project budget
  • Managing the performance of the project staff 
  • Overseeing monitoring and evaluation of project implementation
  • Managing information and reporting     
  • Ensuring effective communication and flow of information 
  • Developing and maintaining relationships 
  • Managing diverse group of highly skilled team members
  • Working closely with the project director and senior project manager to strategize and implement agreed programmatic activities
  • Managing and evaluating identified implementation partners and working collaboratively with the various curriculum and infrastructure specialists 

The project manager will work closely with and report directly to the senior programme manager and must be willing to travel.
