JET extends its condolences on the passing of Dr Jennifer Glennie

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Dr Jenniffer (Jenny) Glennie.

Jenny will be remembered for her visionary leadership in shaping educational access, equity, and innovation, from supporting out-of-school youth during apartheid to founding the South African Institute of Distance Education (SAIDE). Her dedication to lifelong learning, policy transformation, and initiatives like the African Storybook has left a mark on education in South Africa and beyond.

“She has committed most of her working life to investigating and promoting distance education, and, more recently, technology and open education resources (OER), to create meaningful educational opportunities for poor and marginalised groups.”
