JET Education Services announces Prof Thandi Lewin as the new board chairperson
JET Education Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof.Dr Thandi Lewin as the new Chairperson of the JET Board of Directors, effective January 2026. Prof. Lewin joined the Board in January 2024 as a Non-Executive Director and currently serves as Chairperson of the Remunerations and Nominations Committee.
Prof.r Lewin is an Associate Professor at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in the Ali Mazrui Centre for Higher Education Studies and the Department of Education Management and Leadership. Before joining UJ, she worked at the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as Chief Director for Institutional Governance and Management Support. Her work covered student funding policy, NSFAS oversight, university governance, and student support. She also helped develop the National Plan for Post-School Education and Training and contributed to equity and university policy work.
Prof. Lewin holds degrees from the University of Cape Town and University College London and a PhD from the University of the Free State. Her research interests include higher education policy, gender in higher education, academic careers, leadership and governance, and higher education funding. JET is confident that with her experience in higher education leadership, policy and governance and strategic insight into and passion for education transformation, Prof. Lewin will provide valuable leadership as JET continues its mission to positively impact education policy and implementation in South Africa and Africa through rethinking current education systems and engaging in evidence-based research.
