Can workbooks improve learner performance? Findings of the randomised control trial of the Primary Mathematics Research Project
Brahm Fleisch, Nick Taylor, Roelien du Toit, and Ingrid Sapire - Paper Presented at the Wits School of Education Research Seminar, August 2010
Presents the findings of a randomised control trial of learning support materials in Grade 6 classes in 44 primary schools serving low income communities in Gauteng. Two sets of materials were tested: one specifically designed as a workbook which emphasises basic skill proficiency as a prerequisite for higher order mathematical processes; the other the standard textbook most widely used in South African schools.
