18th Edition of eLearning Africa
JET Executive Manager, Craig Gibbs, was at the 18th Edition of eLearning Africa, held from 7–9 May 2025 at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
"Reimagining Education and Human Capital Development for Africa's Future Prosperity" focused on transforming the educational landscape and developing a skilled workforce to drive Africa's sustainable growth and innovation. In an era marked by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence (AI), and the urgent need to address climate change, this conference explored how Africa can harness its vast human and natural resources to lead the world in sustainable development.
Key sessions delved into how Africa can leverage the Fourth Industrial Revolution by integrating AI, digital literacy, green skills, and climate change education into curricula to create a resilient and future-ready workforce. Emphasising the importance of digital skills, the conference highlighted how technological proficiency, including AI, is essential for participating in the global economy, fostering innovation, and improving governance and public services. By embracing technological advances and fostering lifelong learning, we aim to bridge skill gaps, ensuring inclusive and resilient social and economic growth.
The conference kicked off with a one-day Design Thinking Workshop on Innovating Sustainable AI for Africa. The session brought together interdisciplinary professionals from across the continent to develop context-specific AI solutions addressing challenges such as the AI talent gap, ethical AI, and inclusivity in education and training. Using the AI Forum Needs Assessment Report as a guide, participants explored innovative and provocative ideas to shape AI for Africa.
