This is JET's 30th Anniversary. We're looking forward to the year ahead and we invite you to join us.

The Joint Education Trust, the forebear of JET Education Services, was set up in 1992 by a remarkable partnership of leaders from South Africa’s corporate world, major political parties, the trade unions and representative organisations of black business: “We welcomed the formation of the Joint Education Trust in 1992… as a move inspired by patriotism and vision.” Former President Nelson Mandela, Addressing the Joint Education Trust Annual General Meeting, 1996.

Over the last three decades, JET Education Services has evolved against the backdrop of a profoundly complex historical and political process. As a thought leader and knowledge intermediary in education, the organisation has contributed significantly to knowledge generation and evaluation in the education sector and has participated in the policy-making realm.

To celebrate JET’s 30th year, two of JET’s former CEOs, Nick Taylor and Godwin Khosa, and the current CEO, James Keevy, in a conversation facilitated by Professor Peliwe Lolwana, share their stories on the transformation of education in South Africa and talk about JET’s contribution to the education sector.

JET Annual Meeting and 30th Anniversary Celebration

30 years behind us and looking towards the future. The event took place on the 6th October 2022 at the Sci Bono Discovery Centre, 12h00-16h00. While showcasing JET’s unique contribution to research, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation in the education sector over the past 30 years, the event was marked by a keynote address by Ms Cheryl Carolus, a former South African High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and a one-time JET board member. The programme provided an opportunity to demonstrate the strides we have made in the education sector, both locally and internationally.

Nathan Johnstone, Chairman of the board welcomed everyone to the JET Annual Meeting

An arts and cultural performance by Gazankulu Primary School from Soweto kick-started our Annual Meeting celebration.

Cheryl Carolus, a one-time JET Board member, delivered the keynote address on "the power of vision, courage and partnership." Cheryl shared the `All because of you' video, expressing true appreciation and warmth to teachers and everyone in the education sector that makes a difference in our society."

"The Joint Education trust fund was established in 1992. At the time, when South Africa was on the cusp of a new democratic era, this was a groundbreaking initiative." Our CEO James Keevy, and our COO Nathalie Vereen, presented a report on JET’s progress and future plans.

What would you do if you were a President for a day? Powerful speeches from Toni Abrahams and Alnirie Hefer, grade 12 students at Eldoraigne High School in Pretoria.

A memorable cake cutting by Kathy Tracey who has been with JET for 30 years and Morris Phundulu who has grown within the organisation from the JETstreaming youth capacity development programme to being our Young Upcoming Manager.

Our Knowledge Manager, Maureen Mosselson did a toast to JET's 30 years, she was joined by our Board member Adrienne Egbers who closed off the event with a vote of thanks.
