We are hiring: NECT Monitoring and Quality Assurance Coordinator

JET Education Services seeks to appoint a Monitoring and Quality Assurance Coordinator for the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) programme

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Monitoring and Quality Assurance Coordinator you will monitor and quality assure the implementation of programmes by the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT). JET Education Services provides M&E technical support to the NECT on an ongoing basis.  This is a full-time post on an annual contract which has been in place since 2013.




·        KPA 2:  REPORTING




·        Develop monitoring methodologies and tools related to curriculum delivery and management in line with national curriculum policy on Mathematics, Natural and Physical Science.

·        Training : survey instruments; marking process; 

·        Supervision: data collection; marking; data capturing; 

·        Supervise collection of monitoring information (i.e. activity, output and outcome data) pertaining to the District Improvement Programme;

·        Supervise data capture, collation, verification and analysis;

·        Quality assure all data from surveys;

·        Develop Pre/Post tests for various stakeholders in Mathematics, Natural Sciences and NSTECH as part of the Monitoring and Quality Assurance team

·        MQA administration of learner assessment

·        Provide feedback to NECT management and other stakeholders regarding MQA information and reporting as required;

·        Develop and present data analysis using a range of data visualization techniques;

·        Quality assure programme activities including training of curriculum specialist, district officials and teachers responsible for mathematics, Natural and/or Physical Science;

·        Analyse programme data and provide recommendations to programme managers on improving district and school level outcomes;

·        Conduct a review process on materials developed for the NECT programmes

·        Provide technical support to the district level implementing teams;

·        Develop presentations including analysis and recommendations as needed by the NECT management team;



·        Develop high quality periodic and specific reports as planned.

·        Ensure regular reporting to the NECT against agreed upon indicators utilising agreed upon formats and within time frames.



·        Assist Programme Managers and Programme Support Offices in ensuring that district implementing teams adhere to agreed upon MQA protocols and processes;

·       Have people skills

·        Supervise field based staff when necessary;

·        Develop an integrated workplan and submit to the Senior Coordinator;

·        Plan and coordinate MQA activities in designated districts;

·        Attend all monthly and other ad hoc meetings of the MQA team and deliver progress reports for discussion and solutions;

·        Support the Senior MQA coordinator and the team in its programme of work. 


Job/person requirements

●       A bachelors level qualification in education, mathematics or natural and physical sciences;

●       A post graduate level qualification would be an advantage preferably in M&E, mathematics or the sciences;

●       At least 3 years’ experience in monitoring quality assuring & evaluation or research, including experience in the education sector;

●       Good understanding of challenges in the education sector and education data;

●       High level of familiarity with curriculum policy issues and development, specifically in Mathematics and Science at GET and FET levels;

●       Understanding of monitoring and evaluation concepts and methods;

●       Good understanding of data analysis (quantitative and qualitative) and consolidation methods;

●       Code 8 driving license (own vehicle preferred);

●       Ability and willingness to travel when necessary;

●       Able to work on own initiative and supervise the work of others if need be;

●       Some supervisory/management experience preferred;

●       Must have a South African ID or a valid work permit


Required competencies

Collection, collation, analysis and reporting of monitoring and evaluation information; and oversee quality assurance and analysis.

●       Ability to train and support staff when necessary in the use of data collection instruments, data capture, analysis and reporting;

●       Ability to supervise and manage data collection, ensuring routine procedures are followed and data quality standards adhered to;

●       Ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis and consolidate various data sources to draw high level findings;

●       Ability to compile monitoring and evaluation reports and review the work of others;

●       Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English;

●       Ability to present findings to different audiences;

●       Facilitation skills;

●       Ability to work with high level stakeholders at district and provincial level;

●       Ability to supervise the work of others and give constructive feedback;

●       Integrity and commitments to the highest ethical standards.


Reports to – JET’s designated Senior MQA, Project Director within the NECT PMO unit with indirect connections to JET’s Monitoring and evaluation manager.

Supervisory responsibilities – JET’s NECT field-based monitor/quality assurers which may be hired on an adhoc basis as necessary in the project.
