World Teachers Day 5 October

Commemorating the signing of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers.

World teachers’ day commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers which sets global standards for the teaching profession.

The document covers the rights and responsibilities of teachers, standards for initial and further teacher education, recruitment and working conditions as well as teachers’ participation in educational decisions made by educational authorities.

In 1997, The UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel (1997) was added.
