Statement on the current violence and disruption of schools in Vuwani

JET condemns the current violence and disruption of schools in Vuwani in the strongest possible terms and calls on the community to uphold the rights of learners to education

JET Education Services supports the right to a basic education enshrined in our constitution. We also endorse the National Development Plan’s assertion that:

The importance of education to the future of South Africa demands a non-partisan approach. South Africans should agree that differences and grievances should never be allowed to disrupt education.

JET notes the considerable investments made and work done by the Department of Basic Education and the National EducationCollaboration Trust to improve schooling in the Vuwani district in Limpopo and deplores the thwarting of those efforts.

According to the Limpopo Government, more than 60 000 learners are being deprived of their right to education by the destruction of infrastructure and being prevented from attending classes. JET condemns the current violence and disruption of schools in Vuwani in the strongest possible terms and calls on the community to uphold the rights of learners to education.
