Nick Taylor, Research Fellow
Nick has a PhD in Maths Education, an MSc in Geology, and a Higher Education Diploma.
Nick taught maths and science at high school level, and was a subject advisor in Soweto. He was CEO of JET for 16 years, stepping down in 2009 to assume a full time research position in JET’s Division for Educational Evaluation and Research.
Nick has worked extensively in the fields of assessment and the evaluation of school improvement programmes since starting at JET in 1993.
Nick is highly regarded in the South African education sector. He co-edited the book “Getting Learning Right”, and co-authored
"Getting Schools Working". Nick has published in academic education journals and has presented numerous conference papers.
In addition to being a research fellow at JET, Nick is a visiting researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand and a member of Umalusi’s assessment standards committee.
Responsibilities at JET:
Leads several research projects on teacher professionalism, curriculum design, assessment and school improvement.
